Health notice

Flexosamine is not a medicine. The capsules are a food supplement and the gels are products for external use; none of them replaces your doctor’s diagnosis or advice, and the information on this site is general.

What Flexosamine is — and is not

Depending on the country, Flexosamine is sold as capsules (a food supplement, in Latin America), as a 50 ml gel applied to the skin (in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, France and Belgium) or as a 50 ml PRO gel (in Austria). It is designed to support comfort when moving if your joints feel stiff or heavy.

It is not intended to diagnose any disease and does not replace medical treatment. Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.

Ask your doctor before use if you…

  • are pregnant or breastfeeding;
  • have a diagnosed condition, or a skin problem where you would apply the gel;
  • take medication regularly, especially blood thinners (anticoagulants);
  • are allergic to any ingredient on the pack or, for the PRO gel, to salicylates or aspirin;
  • want to use the product for a child or teenager.

Do not stop prescribed medication

If your doctor has prescribed medication for your joints or for any other condition, do not stop it or change the dose because you are using Flexosamine. Any change should be decided by your doctor.

When to see a doctor

Book an appointment without waiting if:

  • joint pain is severe, comes on suddenly or gets worse quickly;
  • the joint is very swollen, red or warm, or you have a fever;
  • the pain started after a fall, a knock or a twist;
  • you cannot bear weight on the joint or move it;
  • the discomfort lasts several weeks or wakes you at night;
  • redness, strong itching or burning appear after applying the gel: rinse the area with water and stop using it.

Using it correctly

Follow the directions on the pack. Capsules: 2 a day, one in the morning and one in the evening, before meals with a glass of water. Gels: a small amount on clean, dry, unbroken skin, avoiding the eyes and mucous membranes, and washing your hands afterwards; the PRO gel should not be used under a warm bandage or hot-water bottle. Keep out of the reach of children.
